2017 is looking to be a big year for us! In just 8 weeks, we’ll both be graduating with our Master’s degrees in our respective fields. We’ve each been in school for almost 2 decades, so you could say we’re ready to be finished! Even before we started this blog, we decided that we wanted to take a trip to celebrate our achievement.
We’d toyed with the idea of going overseas, possibly to Norway or Iceland, but our mindset changed when we started blogging. We realized that although we have a passion for travelling overseas, we still haven’t scratched the surface in our own country, the USA. What better way to experience our country than with a…… CROSS-COUNTRY ROAD TRIP! As an American, it seems like a cross-country trip is a rite of passage that everyone should experience. It’s the epitome of a celebratory adventure.
At this point, the only thing we really know is that we are going sometime in June. And we know the questions we need to ask.
1. Where are the top places we want to visit?
Because we will only have about 9 days tops, we want to make the most of our time. We will hit on our travel lessons later, but one major lesson we learned from Italy was that we need to plan ahead more to use our time efficiently. Not to say we don’t enjoy spontaneity, but we want to make sure that we see all that we want to and maximize our experience.
2. How will we travel?
There are a few ideas right now, and some include my husband going out a few days early so he can ride his motorcycle out. The only issue we are running into is what that will look like getting back. One plan is for me to fly out and meet him in Albuquerque, but we are not sure about renting a car to get back and how to get his motorcycle back… That’s a big one that we intend to look into very soon.
3. What is the process for renting a car for cross-country?
This sort of goes with the previous question, but we want to know if we could rent a specific kind of car (Jeep Wrangler, preferably).
Those are the top 3 questions we need to answer before we can take additional steps forward! If you have done a cross country trip or something similar, please share your experience! We are so excited because this is our first one and we have no idea what to expect! I look forward to sharing our preparations with you guys!
-Wander freely, and may we meet on the road as friends.
